Mysterium VPN Introduces Router Support for Whole-Home Protection
Our team at Mysterium VPN is proud to announce the launch of Router Support, a new feature that lets users connect a compatible home router directly to Mysterium VPN. Once installed, the router extends VPN protection to every device on the network, including smart TVs, gaming consoles, tablets, and other devices that cannot run the Mysterium VPN app.
What Is Router Support?
Router Support allows you to generate a WireGuard® configuration file directly from the Mysterium VPN dashboard and install it on a router that supports WireGuard client configuration. Once set up, the router routes all connected traffic through Mysterium VPN, rather than requiring each individual device to run the app.
Not every device in a home supports a VPN app. Smart TVs, streaming devices, and gaming consoles are common examples. Until now, these devices were left unprotected. Router Support closes that gap by moving VPN protection to the network level, so every device connected to the home network is covered automatically, without additional setup on each one.
How to Set It Up
Users can generate a router configuration from two places in the Mysterium VPN dashboard:
- Home → Router Protection card.
- My Devices → Router card.
From there, the setup flow allows users to:
- Select a VPN server type;
- Select a VPN location;
- Generate a new WireGuard key pair, or provide an existing public key;
- Generate and download the router configuration file;
- Remove the current configuration and generate a new one, if needed.
For best performance, Mysterium VPN recommends selecting High-Speed / Data-Center servers for more consistent uptime and speed, and choosing a server location close to the user's physical location.
Step-by-step setup guides for supported routers are available here.
Supported Routers
Router Support works with routers that support WireGuard client configuration, including:
- OpenWrt-compatible routers;
- GL.iNet routers;
- Supported Asus routers;
- Other modern routers with WireGuard client functionality.
Router and firmware support varies by manufacturer. Users should verify WireGuard client support for their specific router model and firmware before setup.
Current Limitations
As an initial release, Router Support has the following constraints:
- Only one router configuration can be active per Mysterium VPN account.
- The router uses one device slot.
- To change server type or location, the existing configuration must be removed before a new one is generated.
- Setup steps vary depending on router manufacturer and firmware.
- The router must support WireGuard client setup.
Router Support marks a real shift in how Mysterium VPN protects a home. Instead of covering one device at a time, we now cover the whole network at once — the smart TV, the gaming console, the tablet nobody thought to check. It's an early release, and we'll keep expanding router compatibility as community feedback comes in. If you've been waiting for whole-home protection, now's the time to give it a try.
Sunscreen, passport, Mysterium VPN. You’re ready.
