Mysterium VPN has been advocating for online safety and online freedom for many years. And now, in February 2026, we’re taking steps not only to advocate for a better internet, but also to help shape its future – and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve officially joined the i2Coalition (The Internet Infrastructure Coalition) and the VPN Trust Initiative (VTI). Let’s talk about it!

What’s the i2Coalition?

The Internet Infrastructure Coalition is focused on “building and empowering a resilient Internet infrastructure community by uniting essential voices, establishing high standards, and advancing collaborative, innovative solutions that allow the Internet to thrive”.

Founded in 2012, the coalition values education, engagement, advocacy, and access while pursuing common interests:

  • Encryption and cybersecurity: The coalition supports technologies, like encryption, that enable modern commerce and ensure adequate privacy for everyone involved.
  • Internet governance: The coalition supports the international multistakeholder model of Internet governance.
  • An open internet: The coalition and its members are committed to open internet principles, including net neutrality.
  • Government access to data: The coalition cares that due process is applied to any and all government requests to access data held by VPN providers.
  • Trade: The coalition advocates trade policies that support innovation and strengthen digital security technologies.
  • Intermediary liability: The coalition educates lawmakers on how important it is to preserve the liability protections of intermediary businesses.
  • Cross-border data flows: The coalition respects the jurisdiction of international law that ensures the openness of the internet while protecting the privacy of internet users.

Members of the i2Coalition include globally trusted companies like Google, Cloudflare, and Squarespace, hosting companies like GoDaddy and Hostinger, and a bunch of VPN providers, including Surfshark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and yours truly, Mysterium VPN!

Essentially, the Internet Infrastructure Coalition is a group of companies and teams that are committed to building a safe internet for everyone through innovation, policy, and mutual effort.

What’s the VPN Trust Initiative (VTI)?

On top of joining the i2Coalition, which is an honor all in its own right, we’re now also a part of the VPN Trust Initiative (VTI). We couldn’t be happier!

Founded in 2019, the VTI is a consortium of VPN industry leaders aiming to improve online safety by building understanding, strengthening trust, and mitigating risk for VPN users.

As members of the consortium, we’ll be working closely with other industry leaders to boost online safety for users around the world by fostering understanding, strengthening trust between providers and users, and eliminating as much risk as possible for VPN users worldwide.

What Does This Mean for Mysterium VPN?

Joining the i2Coalition and the VPN Trust Initiative marks a shift for us as a team from simply responding to changes in the internet to actively helping shape what comes next.

Rather than reacting to new regulations, emerging risks, or industry challenges after the fact, we’re choosing to be proactive and contribute to the conversations, standards, and policies that influence the future of online privacy and security.

Having a seat at this table allows us to work alongside other trusted infrastructure and VPN providers to anticipate challenges before they become problems. It means collaborating on best practices, advocating for strong user protections, and helping set clearer expectations for transparency and accountability across the industry.

For our users, whether you’re just joining us or have been using Mysterium VPN for years, this membership translates into a stronger foundation of trust, which is the most important thing to us.

By engaging early and constructively with industry peers and policymakers, we can better protect user rights, support an open and secure internet, and continue improving how privacy-focused services operate at scale.

Here at Mysterium VPN, we believe that a safer internet isn’t built by standing on the sidelines. It’s built by showing up, participating, and taking responsibility; and this is exactly what joining the i2Coalition and the VTI represents for us. It’s an honor and a privilege we’re proud of.

We are not just advocating freedom – we’re helping write the rules that protect it.
